Mystical Mondays: on Sanctuaries by St. Catherine of Siena

I will not argue the point which is about to be made. All is sanctuary. But there are places my feet know the land, my eyes swim in light, and my soul finds peace and hope. Maybe one day I will find this everywhere.

THE SANCTUARY

It could be said that God's foot is so vast
that this entire earth is but a
field on His
toe,

and all the forests in this world
came from the same root of just
a single hair
Of His.

What then is not a sanctuary?
Where then can I not kneel
and pray at a shrine
made holy by His
presence?

  1. I was named for my grandmother but I always adopted St. Catherine of Siena as "my saint". She was a nature loving girl! I have never seen this poem - obviously I need to learn more about her.

  3. Oh, I like this. I have always enjoyed the obvious Sanctuary, but also that of my home, waterside, forest...even love and friendship.

    Thank you.

  6. So now I'm curious if the photo came from your iPad, too? (I don't know such things as I don't have that apple relative yet...) "My eyes swim in light" is brilliant. Light tinted by gorgeous stained glass!

    1. Snowcatcher ~ this photo was taken with my iPad using instagram, which better for some things than others. Strangely it is far better for sun catchers than mosaics, which is not the case for our camera.
