I dig leaves that call out for help and shadows taken by WayneStratz via his home garden
Today I taught a rather diverse set of classes all the same material, just used some different techniques along the way, but hopefully now all the students know that plants don't just sit there and take it when a caterpillar slobbers all over it.
Fascinating. I've been studying the problems with mealy bugs, and I found that ants will protect them because the mealy bugs leave a trail of goop the aunts consider nectar of the gods. Now I find out the plants (all indoors) may be giving off signals to predators to come eat these pests, but we have no predators to feast upon the enemies!
Interesting article--plants are smarter than we think :)
ReplyDeleteKen ~. Yes, they just tend to be more subtle about showing off how smart they are
Deletelupin?
ReplyDeleteinteresting about the slobber and the plants and the bugs.
Nance ~ two thumbs up on the plant ID quiz
