Have yourself an arts and crafts weekend in Allentown

In July I started up a conversation with Paul Gretian whose amazing photos happened to be at the same show as our craft. Later in the weekend he invited us to apply to the show his chapter of the PA Guild of Craftsmen puts together and so we will once again be honored to have our craft in the same space as his.

What is art what is craft? No matter. I am inviting you to have an Arts and Crafts Weekend in Allentown, PA.

The Craft show is happening Novemeber 6 and 7 at the Swain School. details

What I suggest is that you make a day of it and head to the Allentown Art Museum while you are in town for the craft show. It is great to hear that the museum is expanding, but sad to report the big connection is falling flat. You see the museum purchased a room that was owned and designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. It was at this moment in the blog post where I was to connect arts and crafts, but the museum's expansion has closed the room from the public view.

And here I was to point out the specific painting by Arthur Dove which Mosaic Woman loves so much, but apparently not everything is easy to find on the internet. But here is a cool Arthur Dove painting of a sunrise:

The painting we saw at the museum reminded Mosaic Woman of mandalas, which she just happened to blog about.

and let me end with this: as I was writing this post, I was chatting with a member of the Swingle Singers on Twitter. I may just meet her and hear them when they tour the US. They take on many a genre and you can explore that, but this one caught my eye and ear. Have a glorious day and see you in Allentown

the tale of a transaction which began and ended on twitter... Crafting On Thursdays

It started with a search of tweets about Hawley, PA. You see we were headed up that way for a craft show and I thought, why not?

and the top hit was from someone who was going to spend a weekend there and it was clear from his tone that he needed something to do, so I started a conversation by recommending the Audubon craft show. The next morning I read his grateful tweet. I shared our etsy sight and eventually told him where to find us.

I came back from a break and Mosaic Woman was talking to some folk, and it appeared one could be my guy from Twitter. It was. He was interested in my heart, but suggested another color.

After the show I sent him a link to our hearts. But something else caught his eye, a seven pointed star in mystic purple. Well the design caught his eye. He asked if I could do it as a rainbow of colors. I knew I had done this in the past, so off I went to flickr and showed him this... and he dug it.

So off to the studio I went and made four new ones. Placed one on etsy and told the man it was there. A tweet told me I had a satisfied customer.

So now one has sold, this one is for sale at Etsy , and two will be taken this Saturday (8/7/10) to the Lansdale Farmer's Market (9am - 1pm).

Jazz on Tuesdays... 3 great jazz tweets to follow

I entered the land of Twitter to promote our business, which I have, but I have also found my way into a land of jazz lovers and players. Here are some great folk who make me smile on twitter.

When I met the woman behind Elements of Jazz, she didn't have a blog, but now she does and if you want to get an education, check it out. Although it may seem to her that I have seen every jazz performer, I have not come close. But with her help I will know many more to check out in concert or on-line. Tweet with her

Curt's Jazz Cafe. The man's blog told me all about all the CD's I had not bought in 2009 and so I knew all about Sharel Cassity when I was at the Central PA friends of Jazz fest in June. What I dig most about Curt is the music he plays through my computer at his live365 location. Now he is introducing me to George Garzone and it sounds good. Tweet with him

and lets end with a jazz vocalist, who I hope to see one day, Elli Fordyce . The first purchase of a CD of a twitter discovered artist was her "Songs Spun From Gold." When it floats up on my iPod as I commute home, it makes for a joyous trip home. Tweet with her
