Support Local: Centennial Blueprint and my mandalas
I grew up with blueprints. You see my dad work was one of a draftsmen...
and so many of the tools I use in my studio are those very tools which he used in his work. The clear plastic angles that give you immediate right angles as well as the often used 30, 60, 90, and 120 degrees. The tape which peels off so nicely. The erasure that really work. The templates that have tiny circles.
So I feel right at home with a local business with Blueprint as their last name. And what Snowcatcher does not know about her lizard stepping stone is how important Centennial was to its existence.
It starts with my need for a big circle, and for that I needed the Staedtler kit I had bought at Centennial years ago ...
... but then I had a large design that could not be copied at home, so off I went to Centennial and got the copies I needed.
so this afternoon I celebrated what these tools have led to in a video, it starts showing me in action drawing a card, then flashes to the design colored in, and then moves on to past designs with circles. All the way Thelonius Monk plays Round Midnight... check it out here
also: out Joy postcard and amazing new business card were created at Centennial!

Vlog: a return to the spiritual
I used to be a spiritual blogging fool, but not so much these days, but a sermon on Sunday by my friend Deborah Darlington, my grandma's quilt, a favored hymn, and several in process mosaics...

Vlog: doodling with Kurt Elling
Most of the time my doodles evolve into designs, which are used to make suncatchers, but at other times I cut out pieces of glass that are in my favorite shape. Then I make a design, this is what I call doodling with glass. The video will help you see the process and then see what grout does to make the mosaic complete.
The music is a tune from Kurt Elling: The Gate. He is singing a Joe Jackson tune. I used to really love Joe's music when I was in my early 20's. enjoy...

Vlog: Red with Billy Child's Wheelbarrow
Red Wheelbarrows are important:
Driving up I-95 in fall 2007, while on tour, I was struck by the stark beauty of the New England autumn - the red, orange, gold, green, and yellow leaves of the tress rushing by the car window, the small clearings, the little pathways. It brought to mind the William Carlos Williams poem The Red Wheelbarrow and I knew that this project would be an impressionistic depiction of what I'd experienced on that drive. I wanted to capture, not just a sense of autumn but also the movement of autumn - wind blowing leaves as they spiral through the air in little eddies, the drumming of the rain as it hits the brown earth, the stillness of a lonely red wheelbarrow in the middle of an open meadow. Billy Childs
The poem that came to Billy Childs, is a poem on my classroom wall:
- so much depends
upon
- a red wheel
barrow
- glazed with rain
waterWilliam Carlos Williams
- beside the white
chickens.

The Grout Monster: aka Joanne Leva
1. Joanne Leva is the director of The Montgomery County Poet Laureate Program here in Pennsylvania.
2. She is one of Mosaic Woman's best friends.

3. She is the poet behind the Film Noir Events at the Ambler Theater.
4. She encouraged Mosaic Woman. We got commissioned for 25 picture frames while we were in the midst of Holiday Craft Show Mania. Joanne suggested she help grout. The project came into being as did the Grout Monster.

5. When we recently got commissioned to make mosaics of the fruits of the spirit, we decided to make a gift for the Grout Monster for all her hard work. It gave us a way to estimate how long it would take to design those fruits and celebrate a friendship all at once.

6. Sunday she came over to grout again, Mosaic Woman prepared by getting out her green tape.

7. I prepared by setting up the tripod and camera...
